Warnings & interactions

Warnings:

May cause drowsiness, dizziness, liver toxicity, hemolytic anemia, depression, and orthostatic hypotension. Liver function and blood counts may require monitoring.

Avoid If:

Active liver disease, previous methyldopa-induced liver injury, severe depression, pheochromocytoma, MAOI therapy, or allergy to methyldopa.

Interactions:

MAO inhibitors: Severe blood pressure effects. • Lithium: Increased lithium toxicity risk. • Baclofen: Enhanced hypotension and dizziness. • Methylphenidate: May reduce antihypertensive effect. • Alcohol: Increased drowsiness and dizziness. • Other antihypertensives: Additive BP-lowering effect
