Uses

Primary Use:

Treatment of edema associated with Heart Failure, kidney disease, and liver cirrhosis; also used in hypertension.

Also Used For:

Pulmonary edema, resistant hypertension, and emergency fluid overload management.

Warnings & interactions

Warnings:

Can cause dehydration, electrolyte imbalance (low potassium, sodium), low blood pressure, and kidney function changes. Regular monitoring is required.

Avoid If:

Severe dehydration, anuria (no urine production), severe electrolyte depletion, or allergy to furosemide/sulfonamides.

Interactions:

Digoxin, lithium, antihypertensives, NSAIDs, aminoglycoside antibiotics, and corticosteroids may increase risks of toxicity or electrolyte imbalance.
